First Birthday Blues.

Owen turns the big 1 on May 29th and I am at a complete loss as to what to buy him for his birthday (mostly because I know that he won't remember any of it AND he doesn't really need much).

I could get him any of these things,
but should I be focusing on something meaningful?

What did you get your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews for their first birthday?

P.S. The shoes are Pip Squeakers. Jayci introduced them to me two years ago. They squeak when the baby walks and the babies seem to really enjoy them. This might be a good consideration since Owen took a couple steps tonight in between Byron and I (and, boy, was he proud of himself)!

I would go with the shoes...but you probably figured that already. I think for Tristan's first birthday we got him one of those riding toys. And his birthday cake had a train on it with lots of blue frosting.

Would those shoes get annoying after awhile? Not for him but for you?
This is the booster seat we have that I was telling you about last night:

It can fold up so it's easy to take places. I honestly can't remember what we got Garrett for his first birthday. I'll have to look in his 1st year album. And since I already told you what we got Carson & I still have 6 more months to figure out what to get Graham, I guess I'm no help. :)

I don't think we got Sara anything! We're such mean parents :) Actually, we took her someplace special and had fun as her present.
Sara and I'd love to go to the Rec Center one day with you and Owen. She loves to swim too. I could leave Lucca with my mom for a couple hours.

Can't believe Owen is almost one! We didn't buy Sierra and Ally anything too meaningful for their first birthdays either. Here's what they did get: Sierra, a Radio Flyer wagon for long walks. Ally got some awesome foam blocks for building and they destroying. My sister got the best present for them last year, a membership to Zoo Boise.

We didn't get the kids anything for their first birthday because they get SO MUCH stuff from family and friends! Emily probably got the most as child #1. She had a huge party with family and friends and we bought her a cake from a bakery. With the last 3, I made the cake and we had a family celebration at their first birthday. One thing we do with the girls now that they are older is take them out to dinner. They get to choose the place and that makes it special for them.
Hope you have fun celebrating Owen's big day!

I got AnnaLee a few different things, but the main thing was one of those ride on toys. She loved it The shoes are cute, but I am thinking that the squeeking would get on my nerves after a while.
