Broken and somehow peaceful.

Our family received some sad news yesterday that my Nana (my mom's mom) has several tumors in her brain. It has all happened very quickly. Please intercede with prayer on her behalf.

I borrowed a CD from the library. The Other Side of Something by Sara Groves. One song stays in my head today.

WHAT I THOUGHT I WANTED.
Tuxedo in the closet, gold band in a box / Two days from the altar she went and called the whole thing off / What he thought he wanted, what he got instead / Leaves him broken yet grateful // I passed understanding a long, long time ago / And the simple home of systems and answers we all know / What I thought I wanted, what I got instead / Leaves me broken and somehow peaceful // I keep wanting you to be fair / But that's not what you said / I want certain answers to these prayers / But that's not what you said // When I get to heaven I wanna go find Job / I want to ask a few hard questions, I wanna know what he knows / About what it is he wanted and what he got instead / How to be broken yet faithful // What I thought I wanted...// Staring in the water like Aesop's foolish dog / I can't help but reflect on what it was I almost lost / What I thought I wanted, what I got instead / Leaves me broken and grateful / I'm broken and grateful / I want to be grateful, peaceful, thankful, faithful, grateful....

Mike's In Town.

Mike Nelson and his boys (their mom is Kari (Buckendorf) Nelson) are in town through today and Byron and I went over to hang out with them last night. The minute we walked in the front door, Byron’s shoes were off and he was immediately wrestling with the boys. The highlight of the evening was the bucking bronco ride. Even after Byron tired out, the boys tried to continue on their own. It was pure entertainment. I did capture some video and will try to post that here later.

Surprise!!

I came home from work a few Mondays ago to Byron greeting me at the door in the garage. He had a smile on his face and said, "I have a surprise for you." I said, "It smells like paint." We walked into the house together to find the east wall of our kitchen with a fresh coat of red paint! It was a beautiful color of red, a rusty red, my favorite color of red. Those I have told looked worried, but I must assure you all that I hate to paint (probably that perfectionist in me) and since we had already talked and talked about painting, but never acted, this was a GOOD surprise. He also painted the dining room a greenish brown and would claim that it is now his favorite over the red.

Baby Gift.

I had to show a picture of the cute gift Kelly got for us. She said that if it is a girl we could put pink long johns underneath. Either way it is perfectly fitting, especially this time of year. Thanks Kelly!

Damage Assessment.

As you can see, the glamorous blown glass ornament is broken. Alas. This beautiful purchase was to be for Jayci this year. I purchased it at Greenhurst Nursery after Christmas last year and got a great deal on it (gotta love a good deal). I was so excited to get it in the mail. I brought it with me to work last Monday to find a box to mail it in. On my way into the office I dropped the bag and the rest is history. I did purchase another ornament, but could not find its duplicate. Hopefully the new one is a good one too, but I can't show it here since Jayci hasn't opened it yet.

What is your favorite Christmas ornament?
